Chopin - Ballade No.1 g-moll op.23 - Cecile Licad

Here is what I personally consider as the best rendition of Chopin's famous ballade. Played by the accomplished Filipino pianist and Leventritt gold medal awardee, Ms. Cecile Licad.

Ms. Licad studied at the Curtis Institute of Music under the personal guidance of 3 of the greatest - Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski.

@SnoroSnoroune Yes, the Heritage Society cd best capture her playing of this ballade. Have heard or owned on cd's the versions of Rubinstein, Horowitz, Gavrilov, Egorov, Kissin, Argerich, among others. Cecile Licad's take is my favorite. Watching this video of her just "feeling" the sound from the keys is pretty. Saw her perform this live back in 1986.

i love her "appassionato" which leads into presto con fuoco, but i don't like the finale, and the scales with too much pedale. Awesome performance though! but i cant understand why asian pianists do those strange faces while plsying
