I remember James Hylton as my uncle from marriage (Christine H., his sister married my Dad in '60 or so), We went to Daytona several times, first time when James was Ned Jarret's crew chief, many races including MIS, we always watched as he kept up with the front runners. Yes, with a regular sponsor, that would have put James into a situation as a winner of a lot more races, on a par with Petty. And I'll always think of the #48 as James Hylton's number.
Only if he had more funds. Richard Petty Might not of had 7 Championships if James Hylton had gotten a little help. He was Pettys only competitor in the championship in the late 60's. It's a shame that fans today think of Jimmie Johnson when someone mentions the 48 and haven't even heard of Hylton. Great tribute to a lost legend!
