Google+ Update: Verification Badges for Profiles

We're rolling out profile verification badges for celebrities, public figures, and people who have been added to lots of circles. Stay tuned as we expand this feature to more Google+ users.

This could be Google's answer to the "common name" controversy. Meaning you're free to choose any name but if it's a pseudonym it won't show as verified, which is a reasonable compromise. If that's what this is, it's the right move.

The way the new version of this works is that relies on a cell phone WHICH I DON'T OWN. Seriously, YouTube needs to rethink this system if they are going to force it on others. Once you upgrade, if you don't meet the requirements, you get your replying privileges taken away.

You might want to use certificates for S/MIME as verifications. Or give out ones of your own, for lower classes.

Then we could use different classes of certificates, like call 3 only for email, class 2 for persons and class 1 for companies and celeberties that really want to be carefull with their trade marks.

And best of all, we could have email in gMail that we all could start to trust, and not like now when it is so easy to get email from santa clause or president nixon.

It seems to me, if my business has been verified for quite some time on Google Place, that it should be tied to "Verified Business" that's an idea. :)
