Something must be done about today's overcrowded prisons. There are many who may not need to be there, but our government could care less about developing alternative punishments and treatments for those who deserve it. America's legal system = everyone is bad with no hope so we might as well just lock them up and forget about 'em...

Complicated. Judges are afraid of seaming to be soft on crime so they keep giving out long sentences to non violent criminals. Drug usage is non violent stop sending them to prison and place them in long term rehab.
