@joyauto That's the thing, if the driver is such a novice to the extent of not being able to go as fast as the speed limit then they aren't really ready for a license.

I find it amazing that even so-called experts (DMV examiners) are not familiar with the rules of the road. The speed limit is what it is...the .limit, the maximum speed to drive under ideal conditions. Apparently the CA DMV examiners don't realize that there are conditions inside the car as well as outside. So the sun is shining and the road is dry.  The fact is that there is a novice behind the wheel. Why should he/she be expected to drive as fast as an experienced driver?

@kiledmk11 thats only during certain times, when school is starting or ending. read the sign to make sure if that speed limit applies to the time that you pass the zone

I come from Sydney (down under), and on an 8 lane long distance freeway (huge by our standards) in a 110 speed limit zone, every car had their hazard lights on travelling at 40 because there was a humongous thunderstorm which would fill a bucket in about 10 seconds.

Is that a fail in California?

I failed my first time because of a school zone. I got a perfect on manuverablity though. I'm going to retake it today.

@gemma2803 why would you have to slow down? If you're going to turn into a road that has a 50mph speed limit, you're going to have to make your turn in a quick manner, otherwise you're going to cause problems for other drivers.

Typical idiocy. It's like this "No Turn On Red" sign by my house, and under it, it says "when pedestrians are present." I'm always stuck behind some mook who won't turn right even though it is safe to do so. Ironically, I also see many people making the right turn when there are half a dozen pedestrians standing right there.

I thought for schools it was if school was in session, you have to go the slower speed limit. Just because you don't immediately see a child when you are scanning, doesn't mean one won't run out at you.
