First, sorry about all the reflections, but I hope you will bear with them.
This is a homogeneous convex object with only 1 stable equilibrium point. This means that if you put the object down at any point, it will rock until it reaches its point of equilibrium and then be still.
Pretty cool.
It was invented by two Hungarians: Gabor Domokos and Peter Varkonyi.
This one was given to Cambridge University on its 800th anniversary (hence the engraved numbers 1209).
