  • This race took place in 1983. The boycott of the 1984 Olympics by the eastern bloc prevented a possible return match between Hesslich and Gorski. Gorski rode commandingly during the 84 Games riding 10.49 in the final. While Hesslich rode decisively in this match-up the boycott tantalized race fans eager to see a rematch.
