I always liked the music on this, but the band that did it only recorded a part of a song for this ad, and disbanded afterward. I believe the band was called Hairy Monster, and the song snippet was called Dream.
As a testament to how much I loved this commerical, I just spent three hours trying to find it, couldn't remember the word after "Applied" (tried Research, Chemicals, etc)
and got nowhere. I'm sooooooo happy to have found it. I think that years ago, I actually called the company too and got a REALLY nice lady who sent me a tape of the commercial! But I have so many tapes, it would take me years to find it. Thank you thank you. Is it true Hairy Monster only did this much? I'll try to find.
This ad for AM (and the music in particular) was quite popular at the beginning of the decade and many people were looking as to who performed it.
I actually wrote to Applied Materials IR to see who sang it and if it was available, but sadly it was only used in this 1 minute commercial.
The band was called "Hairy Monster" and the title "Dream". It really reminds me of 9-11 as it was quite popular around that time and CNBC showed it regularly.
