Growing fuel, rather than drilling for it is trumpeted by many as an antidote to rising prices and global warming.

And this week, biofuel experts from around Asia are meeting in India to discuss further development.

The latest crop getting attention is 'jatropha' - a weed that many see as an answer to India's growing energy needs.

However, Al Jazeera's Matt McClure reports from remote Uttar Pradesh, about the controversy that is raging over growing fuel instead of food.

  • an indian saying it's too hot, lol!

  • India's farmers will become dependents on this cash crop..! It's unsustainable for India, and the world community for long..! Ethanol is not the real solution to our fuel crisis... We need to be developing alternatives that get us off any type of fuel that make us more dependent that independent.
