Thousands of pounds and many hundreds of hours to build and it can all go so wrong so quickly

  • Ordinarily I would agree with you but on this occasion, due to the landing strip being fairly closely bordered by a combination of wooded area's, a river and large lakes, the pilot's options were quite limited.

  • Whenever you got an emergency, I say put it down. An overshooting of the runway wouldn't have been as bad as a full on crash like this.

  • No offence but, SWEET!!!

None taken. Makes for a pretty sectacular bit of film.

  • With hindsight, the B17 could probably have been saved but everything happens in an instant

in this hobby. Any model pilot has to make a snap decisions and then has to try to learn something from the consequences.

  • At least you got it on tape...

  • My sympathy to the pilot, I know how it feels, believe me... Anyway, let me give you a piece of advice from almos 30 years of practice. When in an emergency landing, never go around !

  • Yes scale models can be very unforgiving and things can go wrong very quickly.

its a bad feeling to go to the field with a nice plane and come home with a bag of bits,

    been there done that.

  • You cant fight it,that's what washes of the speed,I have a friend who flies a twin and he tells me that you cant fight the plain to hard when one engine is out,so in other words don't try to climb don't try leveling the plain if it is going to wash off speed, you have to come down in a controlled way,but I don't know how he would have got on in that situation,

my sympathy goes to the builder.
