A poem I wrote, This day means a lot to me.

Day of Remembrance

On this day of remembrance,
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,
We remember the fallen,
We remember the injured,
We remember the boys the men and the women who have died for us,
We remember those still fighting,
We remember for their families,
We remember for our lives,
We remember the buried,
We remember the lost,
We symbolise our recognition with a simple red poppy,
We see the countless white gravestones,
We see the memorials for those not found,
Of those who have fought for us,
The ones who survived,
I'll stand up on this day,
I'll stop what I am doing,
I'll remove my hat,
Place my hand on my heart,
Stop and think,
I'll remember you all and what you have done,
I'll close my eyes for these short moments of honourable peace,
And I'll remember.

  • thanks Josh its nice to see other's taking pride and honor on this very important day that most just let pass by.

  • I agree on people letting it pass, I made an entry on my lj about it. I was always brought up to support the cause by my grandfather and I'm hoping next year to help the Royal British Legion with the Poppy Appeal. Also how are you?

  • That was a great poem. Thank you for reading it. I was happy to see how much respect you have for people who have fought for our freedom now and in the past, and those that have given their lives. Yesterday was a sad day and I thought about what it meant. I hope one day we will be able to stop the suffering everywhere that we create. Ally

  • I made a video explaining the poem but I didn't post it. I'm reconsidering posting it but I'm still not sure. I have family members and friends in the military so the day not only provides memories of my grandparents but also for my current family and friends.

  • Thank you for writing your poem and posting the words in your column. Keep writing.

Featured on my play list, Veteran's Day.

    Best Always - Ben

  • Admiration and respect, very moving.

  • Hey Josh, excellent poem - I was moved.

  • A beautiful poem from a deep heart. We hear too much about young people that are bad, we don't hear enough from young people like you that are so caring, this made me cry. Thankyou

  • Thank you and thanks for adding it to your favourites.
