Karen Bierman, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Penn State University, is helping children make and keep friends by using a method called Friendship Group.
It's designed to give children a safe place to practice social and self-regulation skills through various activities.
At Penn State's Child Study Center, Friendship Groups are done as a community service and serve as a training program for undergraduate and graduate students.
Bierman is the recipient of the Penn State Faculty Outreach Award, which recognizes a faculty member who has made a significant impact on the community.
