"Piece Of My Heart" by Tara Kemp, which was reached # 7 at Billboard Hot 100 Singles in July, 1991. Only two biggest-hits with together "Hold You Tight" (her first successful smash-hit) for this prominent artist, but with a short career as singer. Enjoy!

About Tara Kemp.- Tara Leslye Kemp (born May 11, 1970 in Livermore, California) is an American pop and R&B singer. She best known for releasing the single entitled, "Hold You Tight" in 1991. This single, written by singer-songwriter Will Hammond Jr., went gold and reached the number 3 spot on Billboard's Hot 100. It was followed with yet another Top 10 single entilted, "Piece of My Heart," which reached number 7. Tara's quick success was soon eclipsed after her third single, "Too Much," stalled at number 95. Tara Kemp also recorded a song called "Action Speaks Louder Than Words," which was featured on the soundtrack for the FOX TV series, "Beverly Hills 90210." Released "Come Correct" in 1994.

Tara Kemps' career ended before it even got a fair chance to grow. It was through her mutual connections with Giant Records and Big Beat records that she got her first record deal in 1990. Former KMEL-jock Hosh Gureli introduced her first single, Hold Tight, to the San Francisco area with immediate success. The follow-up single Piece of my heart did almost as well but with a third single release from the album, Too much, numbers began to drop.

Tara left Giant Records for Nerve records in 1992 where she released a second Come together in 1994. The album as well as the title- track released as a single failed to lived up to it's expectations.

Billboard magazine once described Tara Kemp as an artist with the mass appeal of Paula Abdul but with a voice more competent.

  • In 2005-06 we were talking about working on some of the unpublished songs and releasing them but she has since decided not to venture into the performance side... leave that to the Britneys and Mileys of the world...ha! nowaday, only lame singers through Walt Disney Club rule the music industry....

  • Right ..for all fans, i've finally found out what happened to her - My thanks to Will Hammond Jr. for this info.

"It has been awhile since I have hung out with Tara... we spoke a few months back when I was checkin in on her and her little son... they live in Los Angeles area and she is an interior designer now after buying property in the Bay Area and LA area... well, I MISS HOLD YOU TIGHT VIDEO...thanx Warner for ruined all her career......

  • can you upload ''Hold You Tight''?

  • about copyright issues claimed by WMG it's impossible, dear friend....you know...old skool music is dying day by day...i think : /

  • Billboard magazine described to Tara Kemp as an artist with the mass appeal of Paula Abdul but with a voice more competent. She has a great arrange vocal that only deserves to be compared only with Shanice and Mariah....nowaday's female singers dont have that one talent.

  • @Beatamy beatany, we need her back. Even if its a small club venue, tell her her music is still respected. We need her back.

  • amazing track, thanks for putting this video up

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember I loved "Hold You Tight," and when I first listened to "Piece Of My Heart" on American Top 40, I couldn't stop listening to it, and more than 20 years later, I play it almost every single day on my iTunes. "Too Much" is another favorite of mine. Too bad there was no video for the ballad.

  • this was the perfect white chick back in the daym,,,hell now to.

  • dis dat old school shit.

  • oh if I only had a time machine

  • i found her cd at a bookstore in philly...i remember grooving to her songs back in my college days ...if her idiot record company had promoted her right, she could've been the next paula abdul, but it just goes to show you that the musical powers that be chooses who becomes a star and who don't..these days you're better off putting your own music out...i love ya tara :-)

  • I will forever be a Tara fan!!!

  • @22centman36 Gangsta rap started in '88, you bafoon. 1992 occurred during the Golden Age of Hip-Hop (De La Soul is Dead, The Low End Theory, Mecca and the Soul Brother, Daily Operation were pumpin' during this era), not to mention the height of the New Jack Swing era (Guy, Wrecks n Effects, SWV, Jade, Silk, Shai, Hi-Five, Keith Sweat, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Mint Condition, etc.). Those two movements did away with pop, NOT gangsta rap and grunge. You got it WRONG ... as hell, but I forgive you
