Yes, we know it is on two cylinders! First run since the 1970s, the exhaust cage on number 2 has not seated and you can hear the tweet.

A gentle start as she runs on the left hand cylinder first and the other two (or one!) are brought in once turning over on number 1

Lot to do on this engine yet but at least she is now in one piece, a good 25 psi oil pressure.

  • Post longer videos please. Nice engine, would love to work on things like that.

  • @yellowbusguy Will post a longer one when she is running a little better!

  • Massive and Amazing! Was the engine locked up from sitting so long before you ran it?

  • @northstar2007 It arrived in large oily chunks having been dismantled by scrapmen! Has been completly stripped and rebuilt but has worn bores - hopefully we have sourced new pistons and liners which will be fitted this winter.

  • Sounds like something from Half-Life 2 videogame for me :)

  • The Allen engines at Leatherhead were running until at least 1982

  • @AdeV2 Exhaust cage on number 2 has now been fitted with a new seal and she is running on all three with minimal smoke.

  • @KillerJoeFIN White exhaust is partially combusted diesel fuel. You get it when the compression temperature in the cylinder wasn't high enough to properly ignite the diesel fuel, so it just blows back out of the exhaust. Once the combustion chamber temperature comes up - either by spinning the engine for ages, or by spinning it faster, or by increasing the compression (usually by adding oil to the air intake), or by adding easy-start which ignites at a lower temperature, the engine will go.

  • Is there any kind of filter for start air. I think that white from exhaust is moisture

  • Never actually heard an engine going "suck squeeze bang blow" before!
