How did you end up fixing the block. I have the same engine and it cracked in the same spot. I am going to try and weld it with a little flux core welder this weekend.

Just go to the junk yard and find a 2.5 liter Iron Duke Old mail trucks had them fiero's s-10's s-15. Common engine and the long block bolt's right in. Why pay more for a Marine engine when its the the same as automotive. Ive bought lots of boats with cracked blocks cheap and replaced with automotive engine's resold them and made good money. A few of them were the 2.5/3.0 OMC and merc. lots of them with merc 5.0 liter 305 GM and 5.7 350 ci. a few with ford engines OMC

@shipshapetn i can have a 3 liter in and out in 3 days... if i get the right gaskets the 1st time, and if it's not an OMC, depends on if i get authorization early or late in the day... 5 min to pull the drive, 20 min to pull the engine, 6 hours to sawp over his accessories and hour to install, 15 min to get the drive back on and an hour to time it, test it and get everything dialed in... i curently have 30 boats out there that did not come in on time

Some duck tape and it's like new.....

Man, that freakin' blows. I tell ya, boats are more of a pain than their worth some times.
Damn shame this happens lazy boat owners. I have owned several baots including one of these charmers that was rusted shut and opened up 5 miles into lake erie. my ass was saved thanks to my9.9 kicker . for the life of me i said i/o never again. Outboards the way to go all the way I got 2 150 ocean runners on 26 foot rig and life never been better fishing in december and march. Outboards for life.

There is a lot to be said about having an outboard. But if it were not for the "Lazy" inboard owners, it sure would be harder to make a living in the marine repair business. They cry, ask how much to fix, write the check, and in a matter of usually just days start calling and ask if I have them ready to get back on the water. Ya gotta love it. Already this year it has been below freezing, at last count, we still have near 100 boats still out that have not been winterized. Could be a busy spring

couldnt hae been very heated if the it froze enough to crack it.
