Described correctly, but you're showing images of conventional gearboxes, not racks. Also, the principle benefit of R&P is not cost or size (they're usually larger and more expensive), but handling; R&P is tighter and more responsive than a gearbox with linkage.

@sandite007 it depends on where yo buy it from mostly, you can do it yourself, but u'd probably be better off having a pro do it since its crucial you get the setup right

i just replaced my rack and pinion because it was leaking power steering fluid. i looked around and ended up finding the part for 188 bucks which came out to about 298 for the part then went to a bud of mine and got it installed for 100 bucks for the labor. other people tried to charge me $600... good luck

Thanks, very informative video. My 92 rear wheel drive Mitshubishi Mighty Max has a problem where when I hit certain bumps it will begin to shake the steering wheel back and forth until I brake or steer out of it. There is a fair amount of freeplay in my steering wheel as well. Any tips on where I should start looking?
