Everyone plays the G min fugue but I prefer the A min and have always wanted to be good enough to play this in a recital.

I was shocked to find out how difficult this recording is to get and its so so good. Mr Ehnes is well in position to becoming the best violinist since Rabin eclipsing Perlman, Mintz, Zukerman, Kavakos, Kaler, Repin, and anyone else you could possibly think of. I have said this before and Ill say it again anyone who plays Bach and Paganini like this deserves to be heard. Do yourself a big favor and get every recording you can by him.

  • Wow! What a wonderful rawness of sound.

The fact I can hear VERY minor squeaks and other "mistakes" tells me that if the audio is edited at all, it's very very little.

Also excellent delicate handling of the open E string that violinists typically blast into, causing that unpleasant blaring sound. His open E sounds quite mellow and nice.

    THIS is wonderful modernized Bach.

  • Superb sound!!!

  • i prefer khachatryan's. the approach is softer, more meditative, and although certainly not period playing, goes in that direction. the modern approach of ehnes, and many others, is less suited to bach, in my opinion.

  • Ehnes plays with such a rich tone it's pure pleasure to listen to his playing Bach. His interpretation and playing of Bach's Partita No. 2 in D minor, Ciaconna is especially beautiful.

  • @mareoraft I can tell you I just went to amazon and bought the 2 cd set of Ehnes' Bach. I bought the Homage DVD but never really explored anything else Ehnes has done. This video post is a mind blowing beautiful Bach interpretation and I wanted more, so I got the 2 cd set. So I think it goes both ways, yes, it technically isn't legal but on the other hand, it gives millions a taste of something that can be had for $20 in convenient, high quality cd or MP3 form.

  • I have no idea what these professionals are talking bout with the fugue and stuff, but all i know is that james is awsome!

  • @tolljames whoa! you must be really good then! i always wanted to hear a perfect version of this. can you upload yours? that'd be great =] i'm so excited for this thanks a lot.

  • ES UN BERRACO

  • such clarity of ideas, fugal line, perfect technical control, he makes it sound plausible to perform a four part fugue on a violin with one bow and four fingers. the best. not doubt about it. look out for a cd called homage where this violinist performs on many different strads ..

  • @mareoraft I post things also and wonder if posting only excerpts rather than whole movements/pieces, with links to where there can be bought/downloaded legit might be a way to introduce music and musicians to lots of people without so much damage to the motivation companies I believe they must have to produce recordings.

  • I am just discovering his wonderful playing. Thank you for posting.
