A rare video of Scott LaFaro, the genius of double-bass who died at age of 25. A pity, it's so short, not even 10 sec !

  • Stunning! I'd like to make an attempt to recover the whole piece! Where does this snippet come from?

  • (I cannot insert the link here) In Google : scott lafaro beacon for jazz bassists ... there you can find another very short excerpt of his playing in the Richie Kamuca Quintet. I learned there is a one hour VHS tape of that session, but I guess it's extremely difficult to find.

  • He said more in 7 seconds than 99% of the gusy on here can say all day.

  • This probably make Patitucci cringe in awe.

    Scotty was the best.

I owe my sanity to your mother. I love Gloria's Step. I calms me when I'm upset and lifts

me up when I'm down. I have to hear it everyday. God bless and thank God for your Mom...

  • Would not have known of him if had it not been for Jack Bruce turning me on to his music.

  • @Bavgirls Scotty was my Mothers fiance at the time he died they live in Long Island. He was also to be the love of her life, although thankfully she met and married my dad. Gloria's step he wrote for my Mom Gloria Gabriel she was a broadway dancer, and is still a dancer. She has some memorabillia, but mostly just memories

  • scottyyyyyy

how do you fit that phrase in there, this guy is flying

  • Un video tan breve como su vida

  • THE genius. Good taste is his true majesty.

  • Scott lafaro is my third cousin

  • Just finished reading "Jade Visions....the life and music of Scott LaFaro".......a tremendous read for anyone interested in this amazing man.....a must for any bass player or anyone who needs to see what determination is required to reach that level........also for the comments from fellow bass players and those who met or worked with him. He was a "one off"..........he knew it too !!!............Seems he knew also that his life would be short.!!

  • he majored in clarinet in college and switched over to bass because it was a requirement to learn a string instrument. check out the biography written about him. "jade visions: the life and music of scott lafaro." you can start to break him down as a player when you hear first hand accounts from other players. he was playin stuff that no one else was playin, so maybe his technique isnt ackward but better.
