  • Take this analogy: You're driving in a car and slam on the brakes. All the junk in the car flies forward. To someone inside the car, it appears as the junk inside the car has accelerated. However, to the outside observer, the junk inside the car is traveling the same speed (until it slams into your dashboard). The absolute speed of the junk in the car has not accelerated.

  • Pivot braking does not cause the shoulder to "accelerate". And in fact, the shoulders aren't accelerating relative to the outside world (i.e., the ball). Yes, as the hips slow down the shoulders maybe speed up relative to the hips, but the ball doesn't know anything about that.

  • Brian: I like that you're talking about this topic, I've got a stalling problem. If I don't, I shank the ball.
