  • could you suggest where to start with training? i have a 14 week old patterdale and really want to start taking her out. many thanks

  • @dellybobz88

To be honest, it just came natural to him. What you must not do is put your dog in too early. He could get hurt and put off. Put him after less dangerous prey first. I would not put him to rats until at the earliest a year old.

  • what month was this in mate? i have fields like this but never see them in the open

  • I THINK it would have been about this time, mate. It was after the shooting season had finished. The farmer had left the maize in over winter so that's maybe why it's a bit unusual. It was a rat magnet!

  • cheers mate, do you have probs with him going after rabbits when hes got the scent?

  • He's given up on rabbits a bit now cos he knows they're too fast! But he goes after anything he gets the scent of. Moles, water hens, phesants, weasels, mink..........LOL

  • Did the rat taste nice ?

  • @itsashavedone a year is fox age for patterdales mine do rats at 4 months dont comment until you know what your talking about.

  • 100% hunting dogs them Patterdale's i have one and it loves rabbets and birds ?? i hope one day it brings back a bird with blond hair and big tits lol haha

  • It is still legal to use dogs to kill rats? Forgive my ignorance.

  • Ratting is so much more humane than traps or poison. It's quick, efficient and natrual. One of the businesses I liase with is a recycling firm and they have constant problems with rats, (it goes with the territory) I want to suggest using ratting terriers, though I don't know if anybody does it professionally.

  • hehe great video. we recently got mice and i was shocked when our English Staff caught one! i didnt even know dogs caught rats and mice before ours done it. its caught 5 so far...lol 5 mice! i think they enjoy it, everytime we go into the kitchen now i can see his hunting instincts kick in...ready for another kill :D

  • @itsashavedone if you've got rats you should leave the weasels and mink alone as they'll help you out :p

  • wow tha was cool lol
