Just got back from Phoenix First Assembly of God held the 28th annual event. They've gotten decidedly thrash in their worship music, and here's an example from the back row...

  • 1st Assembly I am so very sorry to see what I saw in your worship at the pastors school. What has happened to you? The rock noise, you couldn't even hear the words! The whole scene wasn't about the worship of God, not the God who is holy and wants worship in spirit & truth. That was another spirit, not God. I served with you there for 7 years, but you've changed. I'm grieved to see this. Please turn around and go back to 'the old path, wherein dwelleth rightiousness." Lynne, missionary

  • Mostly the noise is because it was recorded with my $90 camera, not anything with the quality it would take to make the lyrics clear. I agree with you, though, that it's gotten more youth oriented since I first went to Pastor's School is 1997. Perhaps they see a verdant mission field. It's difficult to get my "senior" pastor to go back for another pastor school.

  • @happycow123 Well, happy, I've said enough on this issue: people NEED TO SEEK DISCERNMENT FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT for themselves. There is sacred & holy music UNTO THE LORD, ... and there is the profane & the worldly. ... a person has to have DISCERNMENT to know *the spirit* behind not only words/lyrics, ... but music as well. ... & there is DEFINITELY *a spirit* behind music: and it is either carnal, worldly, demonic, or "merely human" ... OR IT IS HOLY & OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. I KNOW the difference.

  • @lenbenhear Well said! This is truly tasteless music that does not belong in church.

  • p.s I don't know why you don't think this is holy, I mean it is saying "I'm not ashamed of the Gospel Lord Your power and Love save my soul now I'm alive in You." last time I checked the world wasn't singing those kinds of lyrics...

p.p.s You must be really really advanced in years if you are saying these kinds of comments...

  • @lenbenhear I go to pfa and yeah it is more of a youthful feel but I am pretty sure it's because a lot of the youth& young adults are serving in the church (which should make people happy that they are serving instead of doing other things like not even knowing Jesus). From my experiences worship is in spirit and in truth, there have been many intimate times of worship at this church! You can tell a tree by its fruit and pfa definitely bears good fruit :]

  • @lenbenhear Perhaps I am not at that particular church enough to see what you see. Because what I'm seeing that you're trying to say is that if they preformed the exact same music with reverence to the spirit it would be different..which I might could understand if said is true

  • @drummr4JC For the record: I LOVE HILLSONG. I think most of their offerings are very anointed and a blessing.

  • @creolelady89 Please understand that I am NOT talking about "holier than thou" sacred hymns or "churchy music" ... tho GOD can CERTAINLY anoint and use THAT KIND of music and very much so.

Terry MacAlmon. Don Moen. HillSong. Keith Green, Jars of Clay, AND MANY OTHERS is not "churchy" music. BUT IT'S ANOINTED and truly HONORING to GOD. It's *not* a "matter of taste" . it's a matter OF DISCERNMENT of the spirit BEHIND the music & "displays" & showmanship.

  • @lenbenhear I'm sorry to say I strongly disagree with you...If you're trying to reach unsaved people "churchy" holier than thou music isn't going to cut it....The church must stay relevant without losing it's self..I think Phoenix is doing a fine job...I wish we had a church like it here.

  • Just out of curiosity, what does everybody think about Hillsong and their worship style? This is one of their songs and yet they reach hundreds of thousands if not millions of people. To say that they are a backsliding church would be absolutely ignorant. I'm actually quite grateful that there are churches out there who play music that I can get excited about. Why should the world have all the good music?

Instead of judging from a youtube video, go experience it for yourself. :)

  • @musicexpression88 well said.
