  • And just to complement what you said, these skills were expected to be done a certain way, not just any way. The U.S. team did some of the skills in such a way that they felt would make them stand out, and it made some skills a little harder to do. Even if someone not at their level could do those skills, they might not have been able to do them as well. Plus, the way the elements were strung together, there was an element of trickiness in some of these routines.

  • continued: Your comment simply seems to suggest that these moves are easy-which as you can see by all the elites that had trouble with them they were most certainly NOT in an Olympic venue with 40,000 people looking on-and millions more watching on tv. These elements counted towards making it to the AA, Event finals as well as the Team event which made it that much harder. Few at ANY level could successfully complete these moves under such pressure and conditions.

  • In some ways I miss compulsories but I never liked that if you didn't hit the compulsories there was no change of going to the AA. Compulsories for me were always a great way for gymnasts to get out their nerves like Jaycie so they can hit hit hit in the team competition. And that is exactly what Jaycie did except she had no chance of going to the AA because of this.

  • @MckSkeeze Don't be a jerk. Get your ass up on a balance beam in front of millions and we'll see how well you do.

  • I feel bad for her. Must have been nerves.

  • @GlobalGal1976 Very true. But looking at how things panned out, I'm sure she was kickign herself about the fall. She had the chance to make up serious ground on the other girls and wasted the oppportunity as 4th up.

  • Poor Jaycie!

  • @kalibeast I don't know what you are talking about. She had a very good Olympics. Yes, she had a fall on beam. However, she still won a team gold. And as the first or second gymnast up on nearly every event, she never had a shot at AA or event finals anyway, which I'm sure she was well aware of.

  • Such a bad routine. This routine was scored so low as well because she forgot to do TWO leaps after she fell! She only did one.

  • Jaycie Phelps for life, somedays you can do the damn thing. Somedays you cannot at all, this was one of the days for Jaycie Phelps. Besides; we all see it every time the Olympics come around. Our favorite girls mess a few things up under pressure or they go for the gold under pressure. I've seen a few gymnasts that suck so hard in training, but under pressure they do the damn thing. Jaycie Phelps will always be a favorite of mine... XD

  • True....however Dom Dawes was equally as bad up there and she was more used to huge competition atmosphere......Dawes looked liked she was kacking herself up there!

  • I would not consider Jaycie a "cool competitor" she got very nervous
