In the depths of the Guizhou mountains reside about 50,000 people known as Mini-Skirt Miao for their very short skirts. We drove three hours up through the rice terraces into the mountains to Konglie Village. The villagers met us at a car park where new construction was underway and with Lusheng flutes playing led us up the steep paths through the village to the ceremonial dance grounds. The young women dancers here were very friendly and it was easy to get them giggling. In Konglie the women wear a long apron in the front with the mini-skirt showing in the back. The women told us that there are about 10 patterns for the embroidery on the front of the aprons that are passed along through the Mother's side of the family.
