Citadel guitarist/composer Rejyna again demonstrates how a solo performer can sound like more than one person in this Citadel 'Behind the Scenes' video
- instead of using pre-recorded tracks - Rejyna creates her accompaniment live and 'on-the-fly'

Rejyna runs through a rendition of her Citadel song 'Stygian Barque' (also titled 'Baroque Ballad Barque') using the GraphTech Ghost Midi pickup in her Godin Freeway SA (Midi or Synth guitar) with the Roland GR-20 synth guitar pedal, a Digitech JamMan Solo looper and a DigiTech Vocalist Live 3.

"Stygian Barque" is featured on the Citadel CD's "The Citadel of CYnosure & Other Tales" and on 'D'ANthologie 2 ~ Crosses or Crowns?" both of which are available at http://cdbaby.com/artist/citadel as well as on iTunes, eMusic, Amazon and other sites.

This video was recorded live using a Kodak Zi8 camera with a line level feed from the Yamaha MG82CX sound board. You can hear these songs live by following Citadel on Facebook (http://facebook.com/citadelprog) or by checking Rejyna's solo performance schedule (http://facebook.com/citadelsongs)

The metaphor of a boat (barque) sailing on the river Styx presents a message of internal struggle, with a merging of the heart and mind as the dream solution.

  • Wow, that was really nice :D

  • @Johnylogic16 - thanks!

  • Nice sounds out of the VL3. This demo actually makes me think I could use this harmonizer. Every other demo I've seen the harmonies sound like chipmunks!

I've had (and sold) the Vocalist Live 4 and the TC Helicon VoiceLive because the tracking wasn't great and the choice of harmonies was sometimes pretty strange...definitely too inconsistent for live use.

  • @BullhornGuy first, thanks for checking out the vid and for the positive feedback! I know what you mean about the 'chipmunks' - I've also used or tested nearly every harmonizer out there (specifically the units that trigger from guitar, not from midi) and I agree that tracking and realism are the key elements of a usable unit. I also own the VLPro (extended range of two octaves above and below with four voices - and it has even better realism than the VL3) - all that said...

  • ...all that said...I do have to work around the choices the unit makes when there is more than one option it could choose... it takes a lot of practice and revision. Also, to avoid the 'chipmunks' I usually always sing the lowest part with my own voice so the higher harmonies don't get weird, I do not use any pitch correction nor do I use any of the 'persona' settings. I also find that adjusting my natural resonance (watch out for nasal tones :) can drastically improve realism. Peace!

  • Great compose. Great performance.

  • @TheSu2003 - thanks!
