Crested Gecko Care: Repashy fruit recipe

Hi,
This is a step by step guide on how to make a fresh fruit recipe for crested geckos using Repashy Superfoods.

The fruits that you can use (including proportions) are:
1 Mango
2 Pears
2 Apples
3 Figs
8 Strawberries
1 Papaya Fruit
1/2 of a Melon

A couple of slices of Banana can be added to enhance flavour but shouldn't replace a portion of fruit as they can inhibit calcium intake which isn't good for geckos, however they do go crazy for them.

Citrus fruits should never be used because they aren't good for geckos at all

Honey isn't good for geckos (similar to banana) so dont add anymore than recommended.

Well so far, my two cresties love it. However, this does create a big batch, its lasted me about 4 months! I'll be experimenting with different fruits to see which they like the best :)

Isn't it difficult to get the right balance of the Repashy base to fruit mix? Without the right balance, you could be over/under supplementing your geckos.

It is so much easier to just feed the CGD diet with the provided nectars.

Also, it has been proven that freezing foods decreases the value of the supplements.

Finally, if you decide not to freeze the mix, you would never be able to feed that much!

It's actually easier than you think getting the right consistancy for the mix. You simply add 15g of the base powder and go from there, adding more to achieve the consistancy that prefer, im pretty sure than not everyone uses the exact consistancy as everyone else.

Also, I did mention that you can freeze the fruit and not the entire mix and then add the base powder once defrosted, its all down to peoples way of caring for geckos. Personally, i find this effective.

Apparently Repashy's was not designed to be mixed with anything else than WATER. This way you really change the balance of nutrients in their food. It looks good to us but for geckos it's too much sugar to protein content... which is not really that good in the long run! But sounds like a good idea for a treat, though.

I contacted Repashy about the freezing of their CGD, and it destroys the nutrients within the product, so you MUST add the CGD to the fruit after freezing.

Also, due to the high content of sugar in fruit, this greatly dilutes the goodness CGD is supposed to give, so you're probably better just mixing Repashy with water, as per their instructions :/

@SupremeGecko This method is perfectly suitable for "treat" feeding say perhaps once a week (because of the honey). Without honey it could just about be fed daily, of course the fruits effect the nutritional balance (mango and pear are both good - banana not so good) but providing they still get around a 50/50 mix (water to thin it) they should get all they need. Feeding just CGD is more controlled and preferred option (especially when breeding).

Personally, however, I would advise just CGD.

We regularly use fresh fruit in our hous - whilst i dont have cresties yet ive already thought about the feeding plan - im gonna use the repashy 2part mixes as the staple - occasionally feed dusted crix and with the fresh fruit, keep some aside each time the humans feed and simply blend it up and mix it with the rapashy as a treat every so often for the geckos.

@GildedGeckos I missed the part about only freezing the fruit. Thank you for the clarification. If a keeper would like to slice and measure out the fruit, blend it, freeze it, thaw it, mix in the base, add water, and mix, this is the way to go.
