I recorded this radio station sign-on in the spring of 1986 from Boston, MA.
Sorry- it is a shortened version copy, and I cannot locate my original- it is likely gone..

  • up until a few years ago, most CBC stations signed off at 1:10 AM and signed on at 4:55 AM (for the 5:00 AM news). since Canada is spread across multiple time zones, thus CBA would be signing on just as CBC Vancouver was signing off for the night . the news sounder was also common to CBC (and Radio Canada) broadcasts.

  • About the sign-on time, makes sense to me regarding this recording.. thanks for adding that..

  • Some really good music at the end!!! What's it called and where can I find it!?!?

  • I only know it from this audio clip and have no info. about it..

  • Oh my god - I love that old news intro jingle. That brings me back!

  • None of the Canadian commercial (i.e. non-CBC) radio stations sign on or sign off daily back then...I believe they operated 24/7, and continue to do so today.

  • I was born and raised in New Brunswick - pretty cool you were able to receive CBA from Boston. Coincidentally, most of the cable systems here in Atlantic Canada carry WHDH, WBZ, and WCVB as the de-facto Big 3 affiliates. Eastlink cable here in Charlottetown PEI also carries WFXT-DT as the FOX-HD station.

  • I used to receive the CBC, 990AM from Winnipeg, MB) from Great Bend, Kansas. Often times the clear channel station from Norman, OK would interfere with the CBC signal.

It felt weird hearing their weather forecasts in metric. I also liked listening to their news broadcasts.

I usually was able to receive the CBC as early as 21:30 during the summer, but not until 22:00 or 23:00.

  • @MSTS1 Yes, CBA was the first CBC radio station in Atlantic Canada, so it used that call sign. The FM station that replaced it, instead of keeping CBA, added an "M" onto the end for Moncton.

  • @heine71 Most all CBC Radio stations.. Radio One or Radio Two are owned by The CBC

  • Co-channel interference is from CHOK Sarnia, Ont. "From broadcast house..."
