Before he was a New York Times columnist, William Safire worked as one of President Nixon's speechwriters. In this oral history interview for the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, Mr. Safire reflects on his work as a speechwriter and his relationship with President Nixon.

This interview -- seen here for the first time on television -- is conducted by Timothy Naftali, director of the Nixon Library.
