  • Much of Caesar's claims therefore need to be questioned and not interpreted as 100% fact. While we do not know for sure if the Druids of old practiced human/animal sacrifice, Druids today certainly do not. What we do is make sacrifices in the form of offerings, which include bread, wine, oats, silver coins, sea salt, etc.

    The Senate had only given him permission to conquer Cis-Alpine Gaul and to drive hostile tribes away, not to conquer all of Gaul. He was out for power, and it is likely that we wrote the 'Gallic Wars' in an attempt to prove to the Senate that his campaign was for Rome's benefit.

  • There is much controversy as to whether or not the Druids practiced human/animal sacrifice. Roman documents, mostly the 'Gallic Wars' by Julius Caesar, suggest that the Druids did. Caesar described the Druids as overseeing ritual sacrifice for ceremonies, and describes such a ceremony in which humans are burned in a wicker-man.
