ALL MIXED UP:
she shadows me in the mirror
and never leaves on the light
some things that i say to her
they just don't seem to bite
it's all mixed up
she tricks me into thinking
i can't believe my eyes
i wait for her forever
she never does arrive
it's all mixed up
she says to leave it to me
and everything will be all right
she's always out making pictures
she's always out making scenes
she's always out the window
when it comes to making dreams

  • I dont think this is a demo so much as the actual track in a very early take in the studio when they were trying to figure out how it should go.

  • @glennjridge This demo was recorded in June 1977 at Music Designers (Boston, MA) along with "My Best Friend's Girl," "Bye Bye Love," "Take What You Want," "You Just Can't Push Me," and "Hotel Queenie." Source: The Cars-Deluxe Edition booklet.

  • Yup, this doesn't suit Ric's idiosyncratic vocals. Ben Orr's more straight forward rock vocal style made this song a classic for me. I like what they did in the final cut with the quiet intro and the crescendo at the :42 mark. They definitely put some real polish on this one for the version that we all know.

  • we miss you Ben Orr

  • Long live Ben Orr. He was a great friend. We also recorded some of these songs in N.Y.C. at ADR studios. I am so glad these postings are happening. Keep up the great work, and Merry Christmas.... Shayne.

  • This song just suits Ben's voice better.

  • @dcmichael86 thanks!

  • this has a very 70's power ballad feel to it. in the style of "Rush" perhaps. very cool. i like it. thanks for uploading.
