Cope challenges South Africa's ANC - 16 Dec 08

Defectors from South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) have created a new party, the Congress of the People, or Cope.

They hope to take away the ANC's majority in parliament in next year's national election.

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports from Bloemfontein, where 4,000 Cope members have gathered to celebrate the creation of the party.

what is the use Cope in South Africa. They are like cows in one kraal fighting for a small grass( Mbazima Shilowa and Terre Likota fighting one position) what do they think about their followers

I make my contributions where they matter - the UK. Note COPE took on the infamous ANC minister who said 'we will kill the whites like flies when Mandela dies'. Why contribute when they have already said they will kill you?

Noxy, no matter the numbers, it's purely old ANC vs. New ANC. And as we know, what has either of them done for South Africa other than free the country from apartheid and opened it's gates to crime, corruption and poverty??

Once again the people of SA are blinded by the promises of a new party. Lets not forget that cope consists mainly of ex-ANC cabinet ministers and sector representatives. So COPE is the old ANC, and what has the old ANC done? Another point is that Lekota is the leader of Cope, and was part of the ANC, the same ANC leaders that stated that electricity is not a problem, crime is not a problem and then stated that if you don't like crime to get out of the country? COPE / ANC same ppl different name!

15 years of free education and they are still uneducated. it's a choice thay make to abuse their power. Any person at any age has the right to education, but it's the willingness to do so!! And the fact that they think they don't need an education to run a country, is just another way they show hao primitive they are as this is also the case with local tribe leaders!!

they have had 15 years of free education to all blacks, the point is that they chose not to be educated and choose to use the "APARTHEID Card" to abuse power. They had more than enough time to receive an education, both high school and university degree.

Ver true Mac. Jacob Zuma has a grade 5 education and the mayor of johannesburg(Amos masondo) has a grade 6 education. But they say that a leader does not need an education to run a country. A country is like a business. A bad businessman can bankrupt a country instantly.
