Inspiring speech by 6 year old Georgia Clara Marinho, Brazil, growing up in a favela in Rio de Janeiro.

Extract from the documentary Women Are Heroes by J.R. All rights belong to J.R. and Contact Film.

English subtitles:
I am Georgia. I am 6 years old.

I live in the favela Providência. My dream is to live here and to grow up here. But how can you grow up here with all the police around? That is impossible.
My grandmother always says: This is no life. This is no place to live.

I was born here, I live here and I grow up here. This is where I celebrate my birthdays. I always celebrate them here and that is how it will always be. That is what I wanted to say.

My father...? My father died. I miss him a lot. But that's how it is. That is life. That is how it is. Life in the favela is different. Our life is different. I miss my father a lot but I think of him every day. I will always miss him.

I don't want children. Really, I don't! You always have your hands full with children. You have to take care of them. Bring them to school, be their mother, go to parties with them...those are all things you have to do when you have children.

I want to have three jobs when I grow up: become a model, do runway shows and become a doctor. That is my dream... That is what I always dream about.
