This guy was a cook as untill after pearl harbour the only job coloured people could have in the navy was to be a cook (can anyone remember the medal he got??)

This scene always tries to make me cry. I honor true patriotic men with good hearts that have fought for us.

This is an awesome scene and in fact my favourite in the movie, the only thing that is a bit off is if you watch the gun closely throughout the scene, it switches from having two ammo canisters to one ammo cansiter, to none at all. Then when hes gunning down that plane coming at him the two ammo canisters are open when they should be closed ? hes firing an empty gun pretty much haha. I dont know what was going on here, i think 2 ammo canisters would block the view i guess

this honestly gave me chills and is the reason why im proud to be an american citizen
He died 2 years later on a submarine mission in the Pacific so ive read. Never fired a gun in his life till that point and as a cook shot down 2 planes. A true patriotic soldier i would say

He was called Doris Miller, he was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the 3rd highest honour in the Navy. He was presumed dead but was actually Missing In Action after his ship got sunk on the 24th November 1943.
