I spent three days at anchor, waiting for these winds to let up, before I could move on

  • Did not drag anchor. Did set 2 in a v-formation, a 45-pound CQR and a 75-pound Danforth (on a 40-foot boat) with about 200 feet of chain out in 20 feet of water. Just freezing cold and howling for a few days. Capt. Joshua Slocum holed up in the exact same spot.

  • This is when you are really appreciative that you have a warm cabin, preferably in the stern, and a nice book.

  • Great video!

  • Williwaws?

  • Great video. I'm reading the Hal Roth sailing trilogy about the power of the weather in Magellan and how they dragged anchor in a similar spot and ended up on the bricks. Awe-inspiring stuff...makes you fell alive back here in the smoggy city:)

  • Was it too shallow to move into the lee of the island on your port side?

  • Looks like great wind for advanced windsurfers. What was the water and air temperatures?

  • But... but... isn't wind supposed to be good for sailboats?!

    LOL

  • Reading Slocum's book right now. Your video really puts his story into perspective. The wind really does blow that hard in the straights of magellan.

  • did u drag anchor? Did u set 2? Can u laborate?

    Thanks. Nice vid.
