This is a big problem for law firms as well. Insurance companies are very difficult to deal with on the telephone and many times the adjuster assigned to your claim just won't return a telephone call. There are things that a lawyer can do to get an adjuster, or an adjuster's supervisor, to call back. The lawyer can impose deadlines and send faxes that will get the adjuster's attention and will likely get a returned telephone call much quicker than you would be able to without an attorney. The reality is that insurance companies pay more attention to law firms than they do individuals calling on their own to try and resolve a claim. Many people have told me over the years that the best service I offered them was to handle all the paperwork and to just "deal with the insurance company," so that they don't have to.
