Muslim Aid - Mosque Appreciation Event. London, 17 December 2011

To mark the end of 2011, Muslim Aid organised three mosque appreciation events in Birmingham, Manchester and London to acknowledge the seminal contribution of mosques and Islamic institutions to charitable causes. The events also provided an opportunity to the Charity to receive valuable feedback from the community about its UK programmes, including suggestions for Muslim Aid's future work in the key areas of emergency relief, poverty alleviation and capacity building through education and public awareness projects.

The biggest of the three events, held in London on 17 December 2011 was attended by representatives from over 60 mosques and Islamic institutions in the Capital, Muslim Aid donors, Trustees and senior staff. The event also showcased Muslim Aid's current work in the emergencies in Somalia and Pakistan. Certificates of Appreciation were presented by the Charity to all those mosques and Islamic institutions which contributed to Muslim Aid's fundraising efforts during the year for emergencies, as well as Ramadan and Qurbani campaigns.

At these events, the office bearers and senior management of Muslim Aid presented themselves to public scrutiny and answered their queries, concerns and suggestions including questions about the programmes, governance and admin expenses of the Charity.

In his keynote address, the Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie OBE said: "Mosques play a vital role, not only in promoting welfare of their local community but also the welfare of a wider community. It is indeed very encouraging to see how mosques are coming forward to help those in need around the world. We hope that we can continue to work with you in serving humanity and build a closer, stronger and sustainable partnership. We request you to take Muslim Aid's message to serve humanity to your communities and to your institutions and encourage them to become partners of Muslim Aid and help serve those in need. We highly value your advice and guidance, which we believe is very important for our progress and fulfilling our duties as an international relief and development agency in keeping with the principles of Islam."

"This was a very good initiative which we intend to repeat more often. The feedback we have received through these events will be most helpful in designing our programmes for the future and making them valued by the community. We will continue to work with our community, our elders, our youth and our partners to remain relevant and be a force for good", added the Chairman.
