As far as performance goes, if you want to tune a Volvo I'd go for the S60 T5 2.4 litre.
The S60 T6 and S80 V8 are SLOW for their BHP figure (both 300bhp + )
A stage 3 T5 is getting close to 400bhp, high pressure turbo and you need serious performance to beat one.
Lets forget the S60R, it might have 300bhp and AWD but the engine cant take as much power as a modded T5.

Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW used to get aggravated by Volvo in the group a DTM days. They'd get desperate enough to take Volvo brakes and put them on their vehicles to keep up in the corners. :D

T5's are renowned for being quick, but this isn't the generation T5 that was introduced when the W210 was around. It would be a completely different story.
That's like putting a S60 T5 against a W211 E55 or E63, it would well, get minced.
Like i say, the T5's are renowned for being quick, that's why police use them. I'm a HUGE Merc fan, well done to the T5.
However the ECU mods on an W210 wouldn't do as much as the ECU mods on a T5!

The S60 doesn't have a V engine it is an inline 5 cylinder.

That's correct, I know that the Merc has the better NA engine but like I said: it has much more hp but it can't pull away from the Volvo, that's what I'm talking about. In top speed and response the Merc will probably be better.
If the Volvo wasn't turbocharged it would get smoked, but it would also have even less hp so there's no point in comparing that.
Give the Volvo the same amount of hp and Nm and weight and it will be faster than the merc, that's a fact.
