  • I wonder why the iPhone has an app for Youtube if flash is supposed to be so bad. I'm afraid of trying the "jailbreak" stuff on my iPhone.

  • Well jailbreaking won't destroy your iphone. You can always just restore. The iphone youtube actually isn't flash. It uses a different file format.

  • Even youtube is starting to move away from flash with the HTML5 test going on. Flash will be dead in a few years and apple will help kill it like they did with the floppy drive by not putting them on mac's.

  • This is not just about youtube. Flash is everywhere!

  • Flash is still Web 1.0, dude (closed) - a better 2.0 analogy would be in HTML 5 (open). Flash is not optimized for the mobile experience - and there's a difference between desktop and mobile performance. Your iMac is always plugged in.

  • You're right i misused web 2.0 there. Flash isn't optimized for a mobile experience this is true, however it is still found everywhere, it could potentially be recoded to run better. Yes there will always be a difference between desktop and mobile performance, again though it is a standard in modern web design to have flash. Archos managed to to that on their media players, and they ran that on an even slower processor.

  • i agree completely that flash is a standard. its a deal breaker for the ipad for me setting aside youtube, flash is everywhere, busch gardens website is almost completely flash. its october it i needed to find out about Hallowscream or horror nights id be out of luck on ipad/pod/phone. thankfully i use android and google was smart enough to get with the times and use flash. Adobe will make flash for any device, its the manufacturer that says yes or no.

  • then what makes javascript better than flash? what is the real reason? is it that javascript doesnt have to be compiled and can run directly from the webbrowser? isnt action script apart of ECMA script? which by the way is javascript. So the only thing i see here is that flash code is binary and javascript is ascii, but if flash were to be ascii output it would be better.

  • Wrong, web 2.0 is not only flash, also actually flash is not a web standard, according to most of my websites 20% of my visitors (on 7 websites) do not have adobe flash installed, which is a lot of users, which will be limited if you only make lets say, a web in flash (they will not be able to load the site, aka bounce rate increases...)

SEO also states that a website that loads fast has better rating, and a web site that loads slowly (adobe flash websites...) can get penalized for this.

  • I took this from the Youtube Blog.

"...While HTML5’s video support enables us to bring most of the content and features of YouTube to computers and other devices that don’t support Flash Player, it does not yet meet all of our needs. Today, Adobe Flash provides the best platform for YouTube’s video distribution requirements, which is why our primary video player is built with it."

  • another reason why Apple are not behind putting Flash onto iPhone & iPad is because is a lot of the time, websites interfaces designed using Flash do not carry over well to mobile devices! I have visited quite a lot of websites which are designed to have drop down menus when a mouse pointer is hovered over them, & it doesnt function properly on a mobile devices which as a result ends up being annoying & frustrating!

  • Just because something is a web standard, that doesn't mean that people should have to put up with using a buggy & unstable piece of software. Perhaps Adobes slap dash approach to fixing bugs in Flash has been down to peoples willingness to put up with it! However, there are now much better internet standards coming up such as HTML 5 & Silverlight which Apple are openly backing! Flash is an outdated piece of technology which Norton has listed for several years as a high security risk!

  • Hi! Okay so I just got my iPad and I am trying to look at my Drs site but it's all flash!!!! If I jail break my iPad will I be able to download some type of app to get adobe on this flipping thing!? Thank you!!

  • Ur so right thanks for waterer you did

  • @Bstone18 Look at HTML5. It isn't really superior in any way to Flash. Why would a developer make his application for HTML5 when Flash is superior and more widespread already.

  • For some who don't quite understand what Flash really is. It's a scripting tool that allows you to automate images, movies, mouse and keyboard actions. It's in Vector format which allows for a much faster Internet experience. It's amazing. Shop.iFind2.com
