"If I Loved You" is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Carousel". The song was introduced by John Raitt as "Billy Bigelow" and Jan Clayton as "Julie". It was performed in the 1956 Carousel (film) version by Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones.

When I was a kid I though my Dad wrote this he played it so often on our piano. Still love this Raitt/Clayton version as the best. They learned the song and performed for the composers. So light, so compassion without shrills, squeals or microphones.
