Report written and produced by David Guilbault for ABC News' 'World News Tonight with Peter Jennings', called a 'yearender', that was broadcast on December 31, 1984. Edited by Mark Bogni. It shows that, as the saying goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Twenty-three years later, we are still confronting the same issues shown in this summary of the major stories of that year - global ideological battles, war, fanaticism, militarism, generational hatreds, religious intolerance, misguided patriotism, sacrifice, oppression, revenge, criminal insanity, minority struggle, political mudslinging, pop culture adulation, celebrity scandal, corporate malfeasance, drug addiction, industrial accidents, racial injustice, suffering, hunger and poverty.
The music, released in 1984, is as follows:
'Born in the USA' by Bruce Springsteen.
'Greetings from a Dead Man' by the Eurythmics.
'Big Brother' by Count Basie (released in 1963).
'Olympic Fanfare and Theme' by John Williams.
'Do They Know It's Christmas?' by Band Aid.

  • Good video.

  • Great use of "Greetings from a Dead Man" by Eurythmics, from the "1984" film soundtrack. A great mood piece, and pretty obscure. Nice to hear it feature so prominently.

  • @greenseaships Amen.
