Amazing ballad from a strangest and most underrated "post" album ever, VU`s final studio outing "Squeeze". The song is written by Doug Yule and recorded by:

Tobe honest, most of the song in the album were performed by VU live or  in rehearrsal previously. Yule recorded alone because it was cheapier.

Actually most of the songs were then performed by VU. Management just supposed its cheaper to let multinstrumentalist Yule to record alone with some help of pro studio musicians. That`s why the album was labelled as VU album.

Critics hate Squeeze because taht's not a VU record. It's a Yule record.

The same would have happen if Ringo Starr had recorded a "Beatle album" on his own, after Let it be.

It's nice music. Doug's a really good musician and it actually makes me sick to my stomach that those chumps at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame didn't induct him as a member of The VU. But Terry Chimes is in as a member of The Clash? Everything they do is a misguided attempt to be hip. And Earth to allmusic (another bunch of dunderheads): "Boston-based vocalist Willie Alexander" isn't on Squeeze!

...absolute godawful crap...Yule is even trying to sound "Reed-like" in his vocal delivery - this doesn't have anywhere close to the spirit or energy of anything related to the original line-up...corporate-machine pumping mass-produced sludge labelled as something it could never even dream of ever coming close to...

Agreed...I've never been able to hear anything off that Final VU box set. If I was able to listen to a few cuts, I would probably end up buying it.

Great song off a great album and this is coming from someone who considers the Velvets first 4 albums to be some of the greatest works of all-time!!! Squeeze deserves your attention no matter how you label it.

It would be great if someone with a copy of Final VU posted some of it on YouTube. I particularly like the lineup on the fourth disc from spring 1973 (the Yule brothers, Don Silverman and George Kay).

Actually, much of the stuff The Beatles recorded between Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road were solo recordings put together as Beatles albums. The White Album is a perfect example of that.

Doug Yule reminds me very much of The Beatles, mostly in his voice. That is pretty damn cool. :D

Squeeze isn't a bad album at all. Not the best Velvets album by a long shot, but it deserves a far better reputation than it has.
