The aftermath of the car fire. The car was a '94 volvo wagon, in great shape, less than 120k on it.

A gas line cracked and caught fire under the driver seat, setting the upholstry in the car on fire. My dad pulled the car over and rescued a few personal belongings before calling the fire department.

Something did explode in the engine compartment. We thought it was the battery but it wasn't, it was a compressed container of some kind, and the car hood busted open, but there was no hollywood style fireball explosion. This is, after all, not hollywood :P.

The flame guard protected the engine for the most part. You can see the engine is pretty much in good shape. I'll bet it is scavengable.

Nobody was hurt or killed, but my poor car :(, looking at it now is like looking at a corpse.

  • oh ok, thats interesting, how does that work?

  • If you touched any of the burnt paint work, youll get cancer

  • at least it was only a volvo, not a checy or a holden or anything good :)

  • poor 850 :(

  • "compressed container of some kind" -- it's the air conditioning refrigerant. Poor volvo...
