@shwig2 Thanks for the info, I love those mud buddy motors, I just can't afford to buy one. But making your own? Now that sounds appealing. Our duck season starts this Saturday (California) I hope you have a great season. I just hope I knock down enough birds to keep my dog busy! If I miss, he gives me a dirty look, the little furry bastard!

Did you fabricate all the parts or did you use some stuff from mud buddy themselves? The prop, what size and pitch? You did a great job!!!

All the work was done in house. Nothing in/on the frame was sourced. Outside manufacturers provided the bearings, grease zerks, prop and its a Briggs motor. The prop is an 8x10, I can't remember the pitch, its been a while. It was a fun project to be involved in for sure.

How does that little 5hp motor push it? I have a 1648 and want to get a 13 hp long tail for it do you think that will be okay?

For a 1648, I would go no smaller than a 24hp. Longtails are awesome for sure but the higher the horsepower the better. I have a 1648 and I run a 31 surface drive.
