Why do you think industry is any less sinister than government? thats what I don't get.
When it comes to smoking especially-it's in Phillip Morris' interest to put all sorts of extra stuff in my cigarettes to keep me addicted.
It's not really in the FDA's interest to put stuff in my cigarettes, unless you believe they are downright evil & malicious.

Wow! It sounds like you haven't learned a thing from Bush's Iraqi blunder Invasion, promoting democracy and freedom in middle east.
We cannot solve any or all global problems by ourselves, if there is no global support for our actions. Instead, we will be perceived as Imperialist invaders who hides behind the phony mask of "democracy" and "freedom".
People will become suspicious of our motives. We will not be greeted as Liberators, instead we will be seen as Invaders of any country.

That's all we need, more government control over industry. It gets harder and harder to find someone who smokes every day. Government oversight isn't necessary if stopping people from smoking is their goal.
