Well, here we go!
The backstory: In the Fall of 1987, the 3rd Grade class of Petrosky Elementary - in Alief, Texas - presented our version of "The Wizard of Oz" for the PTA. Since I played the Scarecrow, my parents decided to film the whole thing on their relatively new VHS video camera. This is the footage they shot that night.
In this play I deliver the notorious (around my house anyway) line: "Pi R Squared, Cornbread is Round." A Geometry joke in the mouth of a third grader. It's about as funny as that premise sounds. Yeah, I guess this is my big acting debut. Har har.
This video has been sitting with a lot of old VHS tapes in a box at my parents' house for the last 20 years. I figured, since I've been digitizing a lot of old stuff anyway, it would be worth it to make this available for anybody who'd be interested in it for nostalgia's sake, or for my current friends who just want to laugh at me making a goof of myself. (Check out those dance moves. I really haven't gotten any better!)
My family moved across the state after my 5th grade year, so I never saw most of these kids again. I have fond memories of this time and place and I remember quite a few of these kids even after all these years. If you enjoyed seeing this blast from the past, feel free to drop me a "Howdy" in the comments box below. I'd love to hear from you.
In any case, I hope you enjoy it.
And always remember: "Pi R Squared. Cornbread is Round."
