@csinouye isnt heartbreak hill 1/2 mile at 3.4% grade? from mile 20.25-20.75 it gains 91ft.... not a lot in he great scheme of things, but as they say its where it comes in the race...and add that to the majority of runners trying to run on the limit, and you see why its a recipie for disaster for some.

the funny part is, its only 25m climb.

awesome. Pretty cool experience. That guy ahead of you looks like he's wobbling a bit. Heartbreak Hill is exhausting b/c it's final of a series and it's just difficult power your way up! Way to go!!!

how long is heartbreak hill?? I mean is it 1/4 mile? 1/2 mile? I read someplace that it isnt steep at all .. but that it comes near the end is what is the killer?? someone suggested 3% on treadmill is equal.. and that the earlier hills are tougher incline..

Heartbreak Hill comes at the end of a series of three hills...it's the last. These three hills span about about five miles, beginning just past mile 17 with Heartbreak cresting around mile 22. It's about a 6% incline for about a half a mile but it can hurt you b/c it's towards the latter part of the race. I personally find that the last four miles are the toughest...not sure why. Good luck!
