What is a "Real Man"? Is it a guy who plays football, drinks beer & belches freely? Or is it a man who has the courage to knit in public? How about a guy who drinks beer, watches football, belches ...

I am an avid knitter and used to frequent a yarn store in Anchorage, Alaska and there I met the BEST lace knitter I've ever seen, and he was a male! He knit as therapy for PTSD, as he was a veteran. I love to see men knitting! I'm teaching my husband now and it is something we can do together that we both enjoy. How great is that? :)

My children's dentist knits. He retired as a dentist, that didn't last too long...lol. Anyhow his wife was tired of him pestering her, so she taught him to knit. Now, he knits using all sorts of fancy patterns, cables and stuff. He left retirement to work for a dentist that helps low income families. He is an awesome knitter, and knits gifts for all the staff for christmas. If I have a problem with knitting, at my kids' next appt. I just bring in my knitting and he helps me out.

I'm female, but I can't knit. Please teach me. No, I will not watch a football game with you.

Another lady here! Have you tried crochet? I do both but I found that crochet is easier to learn first.

Before their popularity outside the islands, Aran and Jersey/Guernsey fishermen's sweaters [yep, the ones with the cables and fancy knitting] were knit by men as they were used, if needed, to identify bodies of men who had drowned at sea. It was bad luck for a woman to knit such a sweater...my grandfather learned to knit in school, and I think it's cool that men are taking it up again. Yarn over, boys!
