Howard Roberts was an American jazz guitarist, educator and session musician. With the mentoring of Jack Marshall he began playing with musicians including Bobby Troup, Chico Hamilton and Barney Kessel. He played rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass and mandolin, both in the studio and for television and movie projects. He was lead guitar in the theme from "The Twilight Zone" and "The Munsters", rhythm guitar in "I Dream of Jeannie". Artists he backed included Peggy Lee (Fever), Eddie Cochran (Sittin In The Balcony), and Bobby Day (Rockin Robin). He also backed Jody Reynolds (Endless Sleep), Shelley Fabares (Johnny Angel), and Dean Martin (Houston). This selection first appeared in his 1965 album "Goodies". It is also included in remastered format in the 2001 CD "Something's Cookin' & Goodies".

  • @Wileylikethehawk You are almost certainly correct- it looks like a First Act Delia. The Howard Roberts Fusion is a great guitar- I am surprised it is not more popular. Howard also played a Telecaster as well as the 175. Without a doubt one of the very best musicians of his era- supremely inventive yet still able to play great stuff within the confines of the session man's orbit. A real pro- I wish there were more live clips of him in action to be enjoyed.

  • I studied with Howard and he is one of the few that studied how to learn.

And he developed such a distinctive style that he could not be mistaken

for anyone else. I was always inspired by his inventiveness and ability to take a well worn standard and make me sit up and listen. He really was a musicians musician.

  • @alexdroogie100 Looks like a First Act... A guitar which, frankly, has nothing to do with this clip! As for the HR guitars, I have had a Fusion III for the last ten years and it is a great and versatile instrument.

  • excelent version of the genius HR! thumbs up for his legacy!

  • @uncleclunk hey I used to see HR play at The Lighthouse and at Donte's. I too thought he was the coolest dude on the planet, bought a Benson Amp when I saw him using one, can't understand why there aren't tons of videos of him playin live, doing seminars, audio/ video contributions from students, like there are on Ted Greene's site. Anyone in possesion pls come forth!

  • @juliashimwell he was one of the main instructors at git then they also had tommy tedesco mundell lowe was teaching film scoreing at the grove school of music

  • @spacepatrolman It was before - I think GIT got going because he was tired of being on the road all the time.

  • @juliashimwell Was that before he was teaching at GIT before that was the grove school of music i knew dick grove

  • @mikka972 It's not a Gibson Howard Roberts, or any Gibson...look at the pickups. They look like filtertron Gretch pickups to me, but the guitar is clearly not a Gretch. This is a mystery. The body closely resembles a Martin electric, but it is too fancy. If I had to guess, I would say a its a Framus.

  • "Humble is the WAY to Glory"roccoprch1. Inspired by a certain, first-hand experience by the participant (not myself) of one of Howard Robert's workshop!
