The result of video experiments shot in Decorah, Iowa during the summer of 2008; directed by Alex Skitolsky and featuring Kristen Underwood, David Reed-Maxfield, and Simon Cropp.
The project attempts a more personally-relevant depiction of anxiety and the depressive state (which more than sadness becomes an intimidating and arduous task of enduring time itself.) The style seeks to enliven the viewers attention to the subtleties of otherwise bare and unremarkable moments, to arrest everyday actions, gestures, and dynamics within a prolonging arrangement. More than the content of the images themselves, these films are about the mechanics of the moment, the physics of isolation and detachment.
Though the material is digital from start to finish, many silent-era practices for working with film have been adopted - manipulating only the speed and direction of the images, favoring the fixed angle and sharp splice to the gently empathetic nature of more modern pans and fades. The majority of actions were performed in very slow motion and later brought to speed during editing, a distancing effect and further reference to silent film.
Oh thank heaven Alex, finally you put up your newer stuff.
If you moved already I hope there's an active Indie film community where you are now. Love from Decorah
