  • He is right about one thing. People are no longer running to BE senators and representatives.

Something changed when the baby boomers are getting near retirement and Gen X are starting to get old and Gen Y is starting to get into power. I see more people throwing out their responsibilities to be political celebrities. I see more people throwing out ethics to make a quick buck. I see more people spreading hate and fear on the people of this country to push their own agenda.

  • Yeah I understand that people are opportunists. But it has never been this bad before and on such an extreme level.

I see more people willing to sell out and hurt and harm other people just to gain their rewards. I just think ethics are missing in our society which is strange because religion is one foundation for ethics.

  • Rest in peace Senator Byrd. The state of WV and our entire nation mourn the loss of such a magnificent public servant today.

  • @Luinreg I disagree, I think even in Byrd's early days in the Senate, that many still ran as Senators in order to set up a Presidential run. I mean, Byrd even mentions LBJ. LBJ always had Presidential ambitions. What about John Kennedy? A Senator from MA? Or Richard Nixon, a Seantor from CA? I think these two Seantors eventually became President or something? Politicians in the 1950s were as much opprotunists as they are now.

  • You should remember that Trent Lott and Haley Barbor are more connected tothe KKK than Byrd is. I saw a history channell documentary on the KKK. One memember says he hates liberals. That means he beleives he is a conservative.

  • The grand wizard speaks. if only those walls could talk...
