Cambodian-Americans Protest as Hor Namhong Meets Secretary Clinton

Cambodian-American from at least five States gathers in front of the US State Department on Tuesday to demonstrate against land grabbing and forced evictions as Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong holds a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other US officials to discuss regional issues and bilateral cooperation.
Michael Duong, who organized the demonstration, said serious rights issues need to be addressed in those talks, especially the recent arrests of 15 women protesting a land eviction case in Phnom Penh and the shooting death of an environmental activist in April. Michael said his group met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Joseph Yun before the meeting of Hor Namhong and Madam Clinton.
The protesters are from, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C, North Carolina, New York and Pennsylvania. They all asked the U.S. to pressure Cambodia to stop human right abuse and improve democracy.
Michael said Mr Yun promised to convey the issues to Cambodian Prime Minister Hor Namhong. VOA Khmer's Sok Khemera and Poch Reasey report.
